W. F. Olson III, Vice President of the Santa Catalina Island
Company, met with Scouting officials David Landon, Past Council
President and Andrew Breech, Executive Board Member and Chairman
of the Camp Emerald Bay Properties Committee at the Western Los
Angeles County Council headquarters in Van Nuys to sign the lease.
Also participating in the lease signing ceremony were Rick Gables,

Attorney, and Alan Rosen, Executive Board Member and Notary Public.
The new lease is effective January 1, 2000 and will enhance
the ability of the Western Los Angeles County Council to provide
a quality year round educational program for youth from the Los
Angeles Basin Area and from throughout California and the United
States.
According to W.F. Olson, the Santa Catalina Island Company is
excited to have the Emerald Bay lease back with the Western Los
Angeles County Council. In turn, the Boy Scouts are committed
to investing their resources to provide an outdoor educational
facility and Boy Scout Camp for the 21st century.
Following the ceremony, David Landon
said, “I appreciated
being included in the signing of the Emerald Bay lease. It was
an emotional experience. As a young Scout at Emerald Bay, how
could one ever know that the light turns in life and as time
went by that I would be the one signing that lease and working
on helping to save the camp for the Western Los Angeles County
Council.”
Camp Emerald Bay has been in operation as a Boy Scout Camp since
1925.
