What:          Boy Scouts of America Select Dennis A. Tito for Americanism Award

History-making space traveler and founder and CEO of Wilshire Associates

 to be honored for his outstanding contributions to Scouting and the community

Why:          The Western Los Angeles County Council of the Boy Scouts of America announced today it will present its prestigious Americanism Award to Dennis A. Tito, founder and chief executive officer of Wilshire Associates and the first person to pay to travel in space.  The award will be presented to Tito at a dinner reception in recognition of his outstanding career in science, finance and philanthropy as well as his historic voyage into space in April 2001.

                  Previous recipients of the Americanism award include former U.S. President Gerald R. Ford, comedian Bob Hope, former California Governor Pete Wilson, and the late World War II fighter pilot and Air Force General, James "Jimmy" Doolittle.
